Features
Note: Clear-Coat is not an anti-fouling paint.
Clear-Coat Applications
Clear-Coat can be applied to aluminum, fiberglass, copper, brass, stainless steel, or any other surface you want to keep from staining and discoloring. Once applied, Clear-Coat is virtually invisible on all surfaces other than a high-polished surface. On a high-polished finish, Clear-Coat, when wiped, can sometimes leave a slight sheen. This will lessen some with a second coat and tends to diminish with time.
Clear-Coat can also be applied to dull painted surfaces that are beginning to get chalky and oxidized. Clear-Coat will prevent the chalky finish from returning as well as bring back a rich shiny finish.
Clear-Coat Protection
Clear-Coat will protect your surfaces from oxidation, stains, weathering, salt spray, UV rays, corrosion, and electrolysis. It will never yellow or discolor in the sunlight. However, Clear-Coat is not an anti-fouling paint and not designed to prevent moss or algae from growing on your boat hull.
Clear-Coat protection lasts. On boats that are kept on the trailer or on a lift, it's not uncommon to get 3 to 4 years of protection. If you leave your boat in the slip all season long, protection from the water line down should last a couple of years or more. However, there are too many variables such as water conditions, content, and severity of marine growth to determine exactly how long your protection will last. But from the water line up, you can expect the same protection as any other boat.
Applying Clear-Coat
This 12-oz. aerosol can of Clear-Coat is great for touch-up jobs. It will cover an area of about 100 sq. ft. Clear-Coat is also available in a gallon can (item #87144) to be applied using a foam brush or cotton cloth for a smooth finish.
Although Clear-Coat dries to the touch in about 15 minutes, it can take anywhere from 2 or 3 hours up to 24 hours for Clear-Coat to cure, depending on temperature and humidity.
Clear-Coat can be applied at any temperature, but you will get a better finish at 50°F than at 90°F. You can apply Clear-Coat in the sun, but try to avoid direct sunlight if at all possible.
Years later when it's time to reapply Clear-Coat, there is no need to remove the previous Clear-Coat application before reapplying. Just clean the surface with Toon-brite Aluminum or Fiberglass Cleaner and apply the new coat of Clear-Coat.
